Busan Travels

Went on a very quick Busan trip last weekend. Had about 24 hours in the city. This is what we did...

* Checked into Wow Guesthouse in Haeundae Beach (Haeundae subway station about 45 minutes away from sasang, where the buses arrive- highly recommended- 25000 Won)

*Went to Hello Thai (behind the hostel) for some decent green curry and tofu dishes (pad thai was subpar)

*Went for a quick walk along the beach, it was the perfect time because the sun was setting and the view was gorgeous.

*Went to Centum City (subway stop by the same name) and went to explore Shinsegae )The world's largest department store) Mae you would have loved this place. This is some of what they had:
1. Skating Rink
2. Spa Land (More on this later)
3. Cinema
4. Cinema and Dining Restaurant
5. Every department in a store you can think of
6. A huge bookstore
7. Food Park (Huge food court)
8. A basement floor of pure New York Style ready to eat food including 3 cake stands plus bakeries
9. A Grocery Store
10. Too many retaurants to count

Now Spa Land: It is a 3 level facility that includes a private gender restricted bath room. Which includes 7 different bath pools of different temperature of baths and minerals. Outside in the female side only has an outdoor hot springs you can enjoy while looking at the stars. Then there is a sea sult scrub room where you pay 15000 Won to have yourself scrubed head to toe. (btw the bath and scrub rooms are all no clothing allowed) There are all the amentities you can think of for pampering yourself after you scrubbed yourself until you glow.

"At first it was a little awkward while I was getting undressed after the sauna, but I sucked it up and quickly stripped down to the mandatory stark nakedness. With my towel held strategically I walked across the floor and stepped into the first tub I could see. It was a hot one but I welcomed the chance to submerge under the water. I looked around at the many women of different ages. They all walked with so much confidence and pride, they all looked beautiful. I was proud...
Eventually I had to get up, because I wanted to try the outdoor hot springs. I almost yelped when the sliding door opened to outside, it was freezing. I quickly jumped into the 41 Degree bath...very nice. When I got up after this one I walked a bit slower and naturally. But when I did get back to my locker, I changed as quick as I could while trying to look natural... LOL
I'm glad I was alone in the female section the first time I visited a Jimjibang because I think I can handle strangers evaluating my body but someone I know would have been too much. Next time..."
Inside the common area )the shared quarters, biggest area) has over 20 different sauna rooms with different environments, temperature and designs. There is an outdoor footbath with stonepaths to walk on.
*Went for Mexican food (quesadillas and nachos) at Fuzzy Navel back in Haeundae Beach- by the hostel

*Went to The Wolfhound (Irish Bar) for alcoholic apple cidar (based on Fritz recommendation), it was yummers. Down from Fuzzy Navel
*All this followed by Norebang of course (Busan has great selections "I need a doctor and other new songs)
*End the night with a walk on the beach, where we bumped into a group of Koreans setting off fireworks. =D
*Day 2 we all went to try some Beef rice soup (well known in Haeundae) reminded me of viet food but milder in spices! Mmmmm

  1. All in all we did a lot in 24 hours but I want to go back and do the sights (Gwang An Bridge, Cable Car Ride, Temple, The Fortress and the street food)

    Oh well,
    NEXT TIME =D
